Natural Skin Care - Health In Your Hands

Many of us become so busy in our daily schedules; good skin care just is not something always at the top of the list. But there are many ways to care for your skin with out too much time and effort or even money needed. Natural skin care can come from several different sources throughout your day with just a little effort by making sure to take good overall health care

measures.

Two things that are important are to eat a well balanced healthy diet and proper nightly rest. Just by eliminating greasy fast foods and processed sugars, there will be a difference in the health of your skin. By substituting a good healthy balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, your body will fill better and give your skin a new glow. By eliminating stress through relaxation techniques, normal exercise and the proper amount of rest on a regular basis, your skin will show more elasticity and natural moisture. By doing these very important, but simple things our skin will look younger and fresher.

Even for those of us that do eat quite well with a good balanced diet, many of us still could use a little more help by taking vitamins. Since there are several reasons for not always being able to tell exactly what may be still missing in our normal food intake, the extra vitamin supplements are very important. It is vital for our skin to get enough of the trace minerals, antioxidants and essential fatty acids for our inner and outer health for us to get the best skin benefits possible. Regular exercise too, will improve and maintain the body's circulation that will contribute to better well-nourished skin and your overall well-being.

Wash your skin in warm water instead of hot showers or baths to keep your skin from dehydration. Also make sure to only wash with purely natural soaps or body cleansers. Wear only chemical free sun screens and use all natural moisturizers. It is not as hard as you may think to find all natural products at a reasonable price for your skin. If you wear cosmetics, take a few extra moments to read the ingredients of the cosmetics you choose to use, and wearing slightly less of any cosmetics always help by keeping your pores more open for healthier facial skin. Good clean facial skin can be maintained by washing twice a day with warm water and naturally gentle facial cleanser.

Medical Records and Health Information Technicians - Career Opportunities

Medical records and health information technicians handle and organize patient records, and evaluate these records for completeness and accuracy.

They may specialize in coding patients' medical information for insurance purposes. They will tabulate and analyze data to improve patient care, control costs, provide documentation for use in legal actions and respond to surveys for use in research studies. They conduct annual follow-ups on all patients to track their treatment, survival, and recovery. They may supervise health information clerks and transcriptionists.

In 2004 there were about 159,000 technicians in the U.S. About 40% worked in hospitals. The rest were mostly in physician's offices, nursing care facilities, outpatient care centers, and home health care services. Some worked in insurance firms that deal in health matters. In public health departments technicians supervise data collection.

Medical records and health information technicians usually have an associate degree from a community or junior college. Besides a general education, coursework should include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, coding and abstraction of data, statistics, database management, quality improvement methods and computer science.

Many job openings require Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). They pass a written exam from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). To take the exam, one must graduate from a 2-year associate degree program. This should be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). In 2005, there were 184 CAHIIM-accredited programs.

Medical records and health information technicians must be able to:

o organize and evaluate patient records for completeness and accuracy, using modern record keeping procedures and computer programs,

o make sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete,

o communicate clearly with physicians and other health care professionals,

o manage a department, if they have the training and experience,

o work a 40-hour week with some overtime,

o be prepared to work day, evening, and night shifts if working in hospitals,

o pay close attention to detail.

Job Growth for Medical Records and Health Information Technicians:

Job opportunities for medical records and health information technicians will grow much faster than average for all occupations. Most new jobs are expected to be in physician's offices because of increasing demand for detailed records. Rapid growth also is expected in home health care services, outpatient care centers, and nursing and residential care facilities.

How much do medical records and health information technicians earn?

In 2004 median annual earnings were $25,590. Fifty percent earned between $20,650 and $32,990. The lowest salaries were less than $17,720, and the highest more than $41,760.

A Day in a Medical Records Technician's Life:

On a typical day a medical records technician will:

o organize and evaluate patient records for completeness and accuracy,

o make sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete and entered in the computer,

o communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses or to obtain additional information,

o assign a code to each diagnosis and procedure,

o consult classification manuals concerning disease processes,

o use computer software to assign the patient to one of several hundred "diagnosis-related groups," or DRGs,

o tabulate and analyze data,

o review patient records and pathology reports,

o conduct annual follow-ups on all patients in the registry.

I hope this article gives you a good idea of what is involved in the career of a Medical Records Technician. Health care is the largest industry in the world. In the U.S. about 14 million people work in the health care field. More new wage and salary jobs are in health care than in any other industry. (Some figures from Bureau of Labor Statistics.)

Comparing Motorized Wheelchairs and Scooters

There are multiple factors to take into account when trying to determine what method will best meet your mobility needs. Choosing between motorized wheelchairs and scooters depends on your specific situation, your budget and insurance or Medicare requirements, and what your doctor or physical therapist recommends.

There are three different types of motorized mobility devices: scooters, power wheelchairs, and power-base wheelchairs. Scooters are longer platforms with a chair above a motor driving two wheels in the back, controlled by a steering apparatus with one or two wheels in the front. Some models can be operated using one hand. Power wheelchairs are based on the manual wheelchair design with a compact motor. Power-base wheelchairs are chairs attached to a motorized wheel base.

Scooters are the most economic of motorized mobility devices. These are best suited for people who are capable of walking short distances and getting themselves in and out of the scooter, but whose physical condition makes them unable to walk long distances. They are more difficult to use in confined areas than wheelchairs because of their larger size and turning radius. A person who is unable to get around in their own home without a wheelchair should not use a power scooter and should invest in a power wheelchair.

Power wheelchairs based on a motorized version of the manual wheelchair design are the most compact mechanized mobility devices. Lightweight versions are available which fold up and can be stored in a small space making them convenient for travel. A ramp or lift is necessary to load a scooter or power-base wheelchair into a vehicle. Power wheelchairs are the easiest to maneuver in small spaces and cover a smaller total area than power-base wheelchairs and scooters, although power-base wheelchairs do have a size and turning radius which are not much greater.

Power-base wheelchairs are sturdy pieces of equipment. They can be equipped with six wheels, two of them raised in the front allowing the wheelchair to lift itself over small thresholds. These are the most expensive mobility devices. If your weight is a factor when choosing a mobility device, a power-base wheelchair may be necessary. Heavy duty power scooters are available with a weight capacity of 500 pounds, but the strongest power-base wheelchairs can carry 600 pounds, or even up to 675.

The cause of your mobility limitation and your physical condition should be taken into account. If you can't operate a scooter due to arm weakness or lack of manual dexterity, or if this is likely to happen in the future because of your condition, power wheelchairs have easy-to-manipulate, one-handed controls. If you can walk now but may not be able to in the future, it may be preferable to buy a power wheelchair now instead of a power scooter.

You should discuss your options with your doctor or physical therapist. Buying motorized wheelchairs and scooters is expensive, and Medicare and insurance companies may require a medical recommendation to cover the expense.
